Visitors ask a fairly consistent set of dental questions, and most of them have a short honest answer plus a longer one that actually helps. This page gives the short answers and points at the longer ones.
Everything here is general. Anything about your own teeth is decided by the dentist who examines them, and no page can do that part.
How to Use This Page
The questions are grouped into five themes: choosing between procedures, cost, timing, logistics, and the appointment itself. Each group ends with a link to the guide that goes into it properly.
Choosing Between Cleaning and Whitening
What is the actual difference? Cleaning removes deposit and stain sitting on the tooth. Whitening changes the shade of the tooth itself. One is mostly about gum health with a visual benefit; the other is cosmetic.
Will a cleaning make my teeth whiter? It can make them look brighter by removing what was covering them, but the natural shade does not change. Where the problem really was surface staining, that may be enough.
Which should I do first if I want both? Cleaning, normally — anything sitting on the tooth is between the whitening agent and the enamel, and a cleaning sometimes resolves the complaint by itself.
Will whitening change my crowns or veneers? No. Dental work keeps the shade it was made in, so the contrast with the natural teeth around it changes.

Cost
How much does it cost? No honest figure exists before an examination, because the appointment is priced against what is in your mouth. What you can get in advance is a breakdown of what a quote includes.
What should a quote contain? Whether the examination is included, the procedure itself, any imaging, whether a second session is priced, what happens if something is found, and any transport line.
Should I get it in writing? Yes, before the appointment starts rather than after. That single step removes the most commonly reported misunderstanding.
Will I get a receipt for insurance? Ask for an itemised receipt naming the procedure with the clinic's details; most policies will not accept a card slip.

Timing and Trip Planning
How long does whitening take? There are four different clocks — the chair, the appointment, the trip and the shade settling afterwards — and people usually mean a different one from the one they are answered with.
Is my colour final when I leave? Not quite. Teeth are dehydrated by the procedure and look lighter immediately afterwards; the shade settles over the following day or two.
Which day of my trip should I book? Early-middle rather than last, so there is margin for the shade to settle and for anything the examination raises while you are still in the city.
Can I do it on a two-day trip? Sometimes, with no slack at all. Four days is the comfortable shape; take-home routes need longer than a short break allows.

Getting There and Back
How does hotel pickup work? The appointment is fixed first, the pickup time is set backwards from it with a traffic margin, the meeting point is agreed explicitly, and you get a written confirmation.
Why can't the return time be fixed? Because it depends on when the appointment finishes. That openness is deliberate, not a scheduling failure.
Does where I am staying matter? More than anything else in the plan. Istanbul travel times are set by traffic rather than distance, and the exact address matters more than the hotel name.

At the Appointment
Will the dentist speak English? Care for international visitors is provided by an English-speaking medical team, so nothing needs translating in advance.
What do I bring? Photo identification, insurance details if you intend to claim, photographs of any regular medication, and anything a previous dentist gave you about the area concerned.
What do I take home? A written summary naming the procedure and teeth, a copy of any imaging, the itemised receipt, and after-care instructions in writing.
What should I ask before whitening? Start with whether you are a candidate at all, asked after the examination rather than before it — there is a full twelve-question script in the linked guide.

If Something Is Urgent
None of the above applies if you are in pain or something has broken. That needs an assessment rather than a cosmetic plan, and the order of operations is the opposite of everything on this page.
If the situation involves spreading facial swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, uncontrolled bleeding, or an injury to the face or jaw, call 112 in Türkiye or go directly to a hospital emergency department. Do not wait for a booked appointment or a transport arrangement.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Do I need a cleaning or whitening?
- Describe the result you want rather than naming a procedure, and let the examination decide which one delivers it. They act on different things.
- Why can nobody quote me a price in advance?
- Because the appointment is priced against what is in your mouth, and nobody has looked yet. Ask instead for what a quote includes.
- How much of my trip will this take?
- More than the session itself. Allow for the appointment, the journey at each end, and a margin before anything you are whitening for.
- Is English enough?
- Yes. Care for international visitors is provided by an English-speaking medical team, so no advance translation is needed.
- What records should I leave with?
- A written summary of the procedure and teeth involved, any imaging, the itemised receipt, and after-care instructions in writing.
- What if I have a dental emergency in Istanbul?
- Spreading swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or uncontrolled bleeding means calling 112 in Türkiye or going to a hospital emergency department rather than booking.
